I'M BACK!!!!

IT'S BEEN FAR TOO LONG!
After a couple of weeks i'm finally back! I did have a reason for ignoring you all...

Unfortunatly my laptop broke, which has to be the most annoying thing to happen in a while. It's put me behind some of my work and catching up with friends - but the one thing i'm annoyed about - ALL MY MUSIC HAS BEEN DELETED! The hassle of putting it back on is really going to be frustrating. But on a happy note - it's nearly christmas! There's still a little child inside of me that gets excited as soon as it hits 1st December - just knowing that it's only 25 days away from then! But it wouldn't be Christmas without watching Elf, definatly the one film that really makes it feel like christmas...

Video Of The Week

Fantastic new single from Biffy Clyro - "The Captain" from their new album Only Revelations... I love the way the video is directed and the pirate theme that has been choosen, as it adds so much energy to the song. I heard this song two weeks ago on Later With Jools... and from the moment they started playing i was totally drawn into their performance.
Fantastic new album which will definatly be on my christmas list and it should definatly be on yours too.

Eleanor Put Your Boots On

"Hey, I put some new shoes on, and suddenly everything is right, I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling, it's so inviting, oh short on money, but long on time, slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine, and I'm running late, and I dont need an excuse, 'cause I'm wearing my brand new shoes."

The Kids Don't Stand A Chance

Second Christmas Present = VAMPIRE WEEKEND TICKETS!
I read earlier in the week that Vampire Weekend were doing a UK tour in February and there was no way i was going to miss it! Since they released their debut self-titled album i've wanted to see them play live, but unfortunately i missed out on the tickets or they played huge festivals like Glastonbury. Now the time has come! Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa

Talk about taking inspiration from Wes Anderson :)

ALEXANDER MCQUEEN
Anybody fancy buying me this for christmas?

Video Of The Week

Without a doubt this is my favourite Horrors song, and my favourite videos of theirs too.
The best bit is the last part, just after the spoken word, when the guitar erupts into a fantastic symphonic feedback. Quality. Primary Colours, the bands second album is one of my favourite albums from this year, with songs such as "Sea Within a Sea" and "Do You Remember", it's a mammoth turning point since their first album "Strange House". Not only is Primary Colours one overly cool album, members of the band have rather great stage names too - Coffin Joe, Tomethy Furse, Joshua Von Grimm, Rhys "Spider" Webb and of course not forgetting Faris Rotter.
If you haven't heard of The Horrors, i highly recomemend looking into them, definatly worth listening too. Their doing a tour soon too, so fingers crossed i'll manage to get tickets for that.

There's something about him and his dinner jacket...

Liquid Lives

Right i'm expecting some really long hatred comment from Jordan about this post. Go on Jordan knock yourself out...

Ok, so the kids that love to dress up in anything neon love them, the band themselves dress like 'scene kids' and they annoy the hell out of anyone over the age of 25 - say hello to Hadouken! the 'grindie' band from Leeds. I remember when Hadouken started to become big back in 2007 and then came along their album Music for an Accelerated Culture, and then after the hype had died down i didn't hear of them for a while - until the other week.
This year has been absolutely crap for gigs in Leicester, as i've probably moaned about before - but being the optimistic person that i am, i kept checking for updates just in case and low and behold Hadouken! were booked to play in Leicester. But the cherry on top was that The Screening were supporting them. Oh yes, did i forget to mention my friend is good friends with the front man of The Screening? There was no way i was going to let the tickets slip through my fingers. So this morning i booked my tickets, time to stock up on glow sticks...

"Welcome to our world, we are the wasted youth and we are the future too..."

Sunday Playlist

Trick Or Treat? Well this one is defiantly a treat! But i'm sorry to disappoint anyone who was expecting things such as "Ghostbusters" or "Monster Mash" thankfully this is a playlist you can listen to all year round - and you won't be embarrassed to say your listening to either. Mwahahaha...

3. Propane Nightmares - Pendulum
4. Hunting For Witches - Bloc Party

12. Scary Mary - Biffy Clyro

Sweet Disposition

First christmas present this year - TEMPER TRAP TICKETS!
Tim and myself desided to buy each others tickets as our present to each other this year, and i can't tell you how much i'm looking forward to it. Conditions is one of my favourite new albums this year, and i don't think there is a single person who can claim they don't like their single "Sweet Disposition". But i'm sure nearly everyone has had the pleasure of watching that music video, so i'll leave you with another of my favourite songs...

Video Of The Week

I heard this song last week on Later With Jools, and since then i've placed it at least once everyday, i just can't seem to get it out of my head. When i first heard of the band, at first i was really hesitant and wasn't really that interested. But after hearing the song, it resulted in me buying their album, and i'm certainly glad that i did. It was a nice surprise.

So i'd heard the song, bought the album - but i'd still not seen the video to "Animal", until last night. As soon as it had finished i knew this would be making it as Video Of The Week. This is type of music video i'd love to direct, something memorable and amusing.

Miike Snow self titled album is defiantly worth a listen, i'm now off to see if they are playing anywhere nearby...

Lend Me Your Face

Are we all excited for Halloween then kids? I know i am. I'm going to a fancy dress party on the night, so i'm sure i'll take a few snaps whilst i'm there. I'm not sure how dressed up we'll all be, i'm debating weither to wear my Alex DeLarge costume again or something different. Sadly i don't have a mask that's similar to the one in the photo.
After editing this, it reminded me of a fantastic post Jordan wrote a couple of months back about the blog Face Replaced, which i think is just hilarious. Take a look...

Unknown Pleasures

Despite the crap photograph, i think this may just be the best thing i've ever made. Not meaning to sound to overly big headed. I absolutly love Joy Division, Unknown Pleasures being one of my all time favourite albums, and whilst browsing on ebay i spotted this bag for about £6 and me being me fancied making my own. So above is my finished product. I quite fancy making a Cure and Smiths one now...

Video Of The Week

Ever wondered what Joy Division would have sounded like if Ian Curtis had been a middle class American with no depth to him at all? "Let's Go Surfing" answers that question succinctly...

Four reasons why i can't get enough of this song and the video;
1. The catches bit of whistling i've heard since Peter, Bjorn & John's "Young Folks",
2. The two hand clappers,
3. Jonathan Pierce's shirt tucking,
4. Just how much it reminds me of The Cure.

Music videos that are simply shot seem to be some of my favourites, take Los Campesinos! "My Year In Lists" which was Video Of The Week a fortnight ago. Sometimes all you need is to place the band in front of the camera, or in this case have him continuously running.
The Drums EP - Summertime! is defiantly on the top of my list to download this week and it should be on yours too - if you like The Cure, Vampire Weekend, Black Lips or even The Beach Boys, you'll defiantly love The Drums.

Zombieland

"In Mexico, you know what they call Twinkies? Los submarinos." - Tallahassee

Now i love a good old zombie film, you know like 28 Days Later (even though technically their not undead, just infected with a virus, though i doubt anyone would argue with them whilst they were trying to eat you alive). But the first thing that came to mind when i saw the trailer for Zombieland - Americans version of Shaun of the Dead. After watching the trailer i started to look around for reviews, because could another zom-com really live up to Shaun of the Dead? Yes.
Zombieland was filled with laugh out loud jokes, a cleverly written script, the beautifully over the top gore, and not forgetting the Twinkies. As for the cast, my favourite character had to be Tallahassee. I loved Woody Harrelson as Mickey Knox in Natural Born Killers, so to see him in a zombie film, was just great. Defiantly the character with the one liners. But i've got to say some of the funniest scenes in the film is where Columbus explains his list of rules inorder to survive Zombieland. My favourite being #Double tap - you know just to make sure.
Now i don't want to spoil the big surprise for those of you which haven't seen the film, but to the ones that have - the cameo appearance - isn't it just fantastic! But even those of you who arn't huge horror/zombie fans, but love a good comedy, this film is still a must see.
Rule #34 the undead are given very good names with films such as Zombieland.

Handbags & Gladrags

I love finding hidden gems. This was defiantly one - and such a bargain at only 50p. It's been a while since my last post about my vintage treasure findings, but now various things with my bank account have all been set up, the money is just rolling in - so i'm on the look out again. I'm desperate for a pocket watch...
But i have plenty of time this week to splash some cash as it's half term, so i'll be hitting the vintage shop on wednesday afternoon i think. Might try and throw a trip to the cinema in too at some point - Zombieland reviews have been very good, personal recommendations?
Until then i've set myself various tasks to also complete this week; finish reading "My Booky Wook" - Russell Brand and Alex James - "A Bit of A Blur". I seem to have a habbit of starting one book, then buying another one and being unable to wait to read it, so the first one just gets left on the bookcase to collect dust. That's the first task. Then it's completing all the coursework that's been set for the week and lastly (one that i know i'll complete) finishing series one of True Blood. There i was thinking i'd have nothing to do for the week...

Inês Takes Over

So it's been 10 weeks since A Place For Common People posted it's first Sunday Playlist, and as a kind of celebration and as a small thank you for the fantastic comments you all left, i thought i'd let someone take over this Sunday - and i knew just the person for the job. Ines of Cinnamon Eve, and boy did she do a bloomin' good job!

1. The Maccabees - Latchmere
2. Cut Off Your Hands - Oh Girl
3. Pete and the Pirates - Knots
4. Os Pontos Negors - Magnífico Material Inútil
5. The Raconteurs - Steady As She Goes
6. The Cribs - You're Gonna Lose Us
7. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Cheated Hearts
8. Interpol - C'mere
9. I'm From Barcelona - Treehouse
10. The Strokes - Red Light
11. My Bloody Valentine - Soft As Snow (But Warm Inside)
12. Eric's Trip - Red Haired Girl

This week i'll be able to create a new playlist and explore some new artists for myself. But what do you all think?

Lady Crush

I know i've already posted today's Video Of The Week but if i'd have known this had been released this definatly would have been it. But never the less i've shared it with you all now.
Now we've all seen Dita Von Teese in a cocktail glass but Florence Welch on a glittery moon - it doesn't get better than that!
"Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air..."

Video Of The Week

This week's a mouth full. I introduce - Dananananaykrod, all the way from Glasgow. With two drummers the band have been labeled "fight-pop", clues anyone one? Never the less, i'm desperate to see them live! Black Wax is one of my favourite songs from their debut album; Hey Everyone! Another one of my favourite albums this year. It's unlikely your going to forget this band anytime soon, and not just because of their ridiculously long name; but because as soon as you've heard "Black Wax"- you'll be humming the tune.
It's A Place For Common People's 10th Video Of the Week, and as if me bringing you Dananananaykrod wasn't good enough - it's also the 10th Sunday Playlist too this weekend. As a speical treat for you all i've been lucky enough to ask the delightful Ines of Cinnamon Eve to create this week's playlist. It's going to be a good one, so make sure you keep an eye out...
